UTTERANCES,
Communication Design BFA Thesis (2023)
DO WORDS MEAN ANYTHING, EVER? LANGUAGE IS A CULTURAL PRODUCT; THE SPEAKER IS SITUATED AT THE INTERSECTION BETWEEN LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL KNOWLEDGE. CREATION, INTERPRETATION, AND JUDGEMENT OF LANGUAGE IS SOCIALLY CONTEXTUALIZED–THE INFLUENCE OF SYNTAX, GRAMMAR, ETYMOLOGY, MORPHOLOGY ON COMMUNICATION IS NEGLIGIBLE. UTTERANCES IS AN EXPLORATION OF THE INTERPLAY BETWEEN SEMANTICS AND PRAGMATICS IN SOCIAL BEHAVIOR, AS CONSCIOUSLY OR UNCONSCIOUSLY MANIPULATED BY THE SPEAKER AND AUDIENCE: THE DESIGNER AND VIEWER.
